Momma
I know I always stay out too late, drinkin' and carousin'. Your friends all recommend you make me find some different housin'. If you ever can forgive me for my low down, dirty ways, I promise that I'll try to make it up to you someday... I know you disapprove of all the company I keep. We all make too much noise while normal people try to sleep. Drinkin', yellin', havin' fun... with sleazy women, booze and guns... got no direction, no income... the hole I'm in is deep... But, Momma, Momma... You know I love you, yes I do... always can depend on you... Momma, I know you care for me, although; Most things that I do offend you, ain't found Gawd I don't intend to. Don't like Jesus, don't pretend to. But if he asks, I'll recommend you... tell 'im just how good you' been to me. I disappear into the woods, and wander 'round for days... I come out cold and dirty in a misanthropic haze. You prob'ly think that I am crazy, stupid, drunk or just plain lazy, wasted all that money an' I don't have a degree.... I crashed my car, and then I crashed yours, now I just don't drive. It's prob'ly just a silly fluke that I am still alive. But, for all my flaws and mishaps in the greater scheme of life, it's not your fault, everything that you did for me was right. Momma, Momma... You know I love you, yes I do... always can depend on you...Momma, I know you care for me, although; Most things that I do offend you, ain't found Gawd I don't intend to. Don't like Jesus, don't pretend to. But if he asks, I'll recommend you... But he don't love you as much as I do, you're the best, there's no one like you, I'll tell 'em just how good you've been to me.

Some faceless stranger - out there alone...
Some faded memory, so tired and old; bitter and cold.
Waiting for redemption - trying to prove a point
Lost so deep in reflection - got turned around -
Can't get back there now
Thought you'd bring the world to its knees and now its breaking you down
knocking you around... You were gonna
try to keep away the disease but you can feel it breaking through deep down where no one can see...
You were getting cozy with the fools: follow all the rules, don't be too alarmed when they remove your right to choose
You went in too deep
and now your cover's just another one of the pathetic promises you can't keep.
But something brightened my window
Someone knocked on my door
It wasn't what I expected
or was looking for
Change becomes familiar
scenery unfolds
hiding back in the shadows
till the deal is made - and the price is paid.
Or maybe out in the open
trying to play the game
fumbling in an ocean that you used to hate
but you capitulate.
Thought that you had nothing to lose
but now you're pushing deeper in and you're becoming a part of the ruse
Hoped it wouldn't last very long, but now you're quickly finding out that all your bets were all placed all wrong
You try to make the best of the worst
If you're lucky it won't kill you before all of the work pays off
You went in too deep and now your cover's just another one of the pathetic promises you can't keep.
But something brightened my window
Someone knocked on my door
It wasn't what I expected
or was looking for
Morning sun on the mountain
Drifting smoke through the trees
someone sleeping beside me
it all comes back to me

Nothing to see
I'm looking out at the world, from where I sit I see a version of me looking down, trying to be someone better than me; I've got it all figured out - not a doubt in my head , it's easy.
But as I watch I see the ground start to crumble and move; I start to realize that I've suddenly got something to lose, and though I try to play it cool I watch the earth slip away beneath me...
...And as I fall I'm thinking back on it all - that I was strong and independent and on top of it all. I never noticed all the frays in the rope I climbed,; I never tried to look around until I went blind.
And now I see that was standing up on shaky ground, was just a matter of time until I fell down - was just a matter of who; was just a matter of when; and as I watch I see myself begin to climb back up again...
And it's alright, and I'm OK; because I'm here again with you - I'm here again today...
I went down to the bottom there was nothing to see - so I began to slowly climb back to the top of the heap, but then it didn't feel right and it didn't feel true, because the only place for me to be is here with you...
I'm looking up from the rubble of the world that I knew, I'm laying broken down and dirty, feeling hurt and confused - I see myself looking down trying to figure it out; looks like I'm getting nowhere.
I pull myself from the wreckage, wipe the dust from my eyes; as I survey my situation I begin to realize - no matter how hard I tried to leave the others behind I'm not the only one there.
Before I took the fall I wasn't alone and as the ground gave way beneath me we all sank like stones... And now I look around and see them laying by my side, and I'm prevented from assisting by my wounded pride...
And every time I try to run away it just doesn't help, no matter how far I run, I'm always stuck with myself... I'm on the bottom looking up or on the top looking down - the only break I get from my mistakes is when you come around...
And it's alright, and I'm OK; because I'm here again with you - I'm here again today...
I went down to the bottom there was nothing to see - so I began to slowly climb back to the top of the heap, but then it didn't feel right and it didn't feel true, because the only place for me to be is here with you...
When I wake to see you in the morning light - you chase away the cobwebs from my eyes... At least for now I know that every thing's alright; no matter what's in store for me tonight... [So it's a bit hokey. Bite me.]

Jim Lake Placid, New York
Jim is a mediocre rock band from upstate NY. Formed by a few starry-eyed, twenty-somehings in the mid 90's, they (along with
a slew of other marginal, regional rock bands peopled by over-privileged young men) achieved virtually nothing. At great expense.
They persevered through 10 years, 5 albums, a few requisite lineup changes, and countless stupid, awkward and unremarkable live performances.
